Guanica, the Friendly Town, is a very pretty and a tourist destination in P.R. It is a town full of history. In the past 8 years and thanks to the mayor, a man with a vision for the town and very proud of Guanica even though he was not born there, the town has revived and their is a new effort to beautify and restore and renovate the town. It is a pleasure to go to Guanica to visit. There is still a lot of work to be done.
Ensenada, the principal borough or unincorporated community of Guánica, was at one time self sufficient and even more important that Guánica itself, this during the height of the sugar industry. Enjoy our ample collection of postcards and photos of Guánica and Ensenada which covers principally the Central Guánica Sugar Refinery and environs. Although our paternal family is from Las Rancheras in Yauco starting with Domingo Rodriguez in the 18th century, a lot of the family moved to Guánica and Ensenada. On the maternal side, our mother and some of her siblings were born in Ensenada during the time that our grandfather, Antonio Melendez Robles, was the manager of the American Store of the Guánica Central.
