A la Isla de Puerto Rico la azotan periodicamente huracanes y tormentas que hacen mucho daño y causan muertes y heridas. Los daños a la propiedad  causados por los vientos huracandos, los deslizes de tierra, y las inundaciones causan millones de dólares en pérdidas.  Nosotros estamos concentrandonos en las foto postales, tarjetas y otras fotografías de diferentes formatos entre los años 1890 al 1950. Durante este periodo los huracanes los llamaban por nombres de santos católicos, tales como San Felipe, San Ciriaco, San Ciprian, etc.

Through the years the island of Puerto Rico has been hit by strong hurricanes and storms causing significant damage to property, deaths and many injuries resulting from flying debris, floods and mud slides.  Hurricanes in years past were name for catholic saints such as San Ciriaco, San Ciprian, etc.

También han habido varios terremotos en la isla, aunque estos no son frequentes y realmente raros son aquellos que causan daños palpables.  De acuerdo con Wikipedia:

The Puerto Rico earthquake of 1918 was a major earthquake that struck the island of Puerto Rico at 10:14am on October 11, 1918. The magnitude for the earthquake has been reported at around 7.5 (or Level IX in the Rossi-Forel scale used at that time); however, that might not be an exact number. The main-shock epicenter occurred offshore about 10 miles (5 km) from the northwestern coast of the island, somewhere along the Puerto Rico Trench.

The earthquake triggered a tsunami with waves measured at approximately 5.5 meters (20 feet) that lashed the west coast of the island and is remembered as one of the worst natural disasters that have struck the island. The losses resulting from the disaster were approximately 116 casualties and $4 million in property.
